Last November 5, 2006, GM Jorge Ramos and Shaolin Hung Fut Philippine group was invited by Chairwoman Siu Ty Lin and chief instructor William Soon of Philippine Ling Nam Athletic Federation to perform for their 50th Anniversary. Together with Philippine Beng Kiam and Kong Han Athletic Associations, our group performed the usual Hung Fut Chi Kung power demonstration which was one of the crowds’ favorite. Bottle braking demonstration was our starting piece which was followed by iron rod bending, coconut breaking, iron shirt chi kung demo with bed of nails and more… It was a gathering of local and foreign kung fu practitioner, Masters mostly from Hong Kong and other countries performed and graced the occasion. After the performance our group was able to take pictures and exchanges smile and handshakes from kung fu masters of different systems. Even with the language barrier we were able feel the sincerity of most of the masters that are open to share and make friends with fellow kung fu practitioners, that we are all one family under the sun in promoting (CMA) Chinese Martial Arts wu lin yi chia . Here are some great smiles from Master Cheung Kwok Wah of Pak Hok Pai, Master Lin of Chung Hua Hop Wan (Ling Nam Taiwan), Sifu Argimiro Nunez and many others with our own Master Jorge Ramos.

Decades ago a man named Ho Tien Po fled his native land, China to evade Communism and found refuges in the Philippines. From the village of the Ho Family, Ho Tien Po learned the art of Hung Fut from his elders and relatives where it was taught only to clan members. He was then given the opportunity by the elders to teach the younger generation and was considered a great teacher of Hung Fut by his peers and his clan and family. During his stay in Manila, Ho Tien Po worked as cook in a local Chinatown restaurant. Here he came to know a younger distant relative of his, named Jose Poon Sin, more commonly known as "Ah Huk". Jose Poon Sin was a native from Nan Hai, Guangdong, he was the nephew of a close relative, who also served as a cook with Ho Tien Po in the same local restaurant. Poon Sin was fortunate enough to be personally trained by Ho Tien Po and his sister who was famous for her " Cotton Leg Techniques" and was also a proficient Hung Fut artist. Since both of there were trained from the same village. Years of daily strength and skill practice under Ho Tien Po molded Poon Sin into a skillful Hung Fut practitioner. Poon Sin was a kung fu or wushu art lover who would spend time in Manila's local Chinatown martial arts club as a spectator. He would join athletic clubs to be able to watch martial artists perform and demonstrate their skill. Until the day he passed away he has always kept a low profile as a Hung Fut master. He was a humble and simple person with great virtues. It was by chance that George Ramos came to know him in once of the local gyms or Kwan. At that time George Ramos was already a kung fu practitioner for six years and was having a hard time improving his skill to a higher level. He noticed that Poon Sin's pointers and instruction were unique, and had great authority and precision. His system of training made a lasting impression in his mind. It was only years after that they had the chance to meet again, because Poon Sin had gone to the southern part of the Philippines because of his work. Since then George Ramos continued to seek his advice and trained further under Jose Poon Sin. It was only later did Ramos realize that he was training in the system of Hung Fut Kung Fu. During this time Hung Fut was unknown in Manila, Kung Fu school was very rare. He was later adopted by Poon Sin into the Hung Fut System and was taught the complete training system of the Art. Jorge Ramos is considered to be the "Father of Kung Fu" by Filipino for his continuing effort in promoting authentic Chinese Kung Fu to the public. He has been teaching the public since 1968 and has introduced Hung Fut Kung Fu and other related Kung Fu or Wushu Arts. The Hung Fut school was opened in honor of his masters and for the purpose of financially supporting another Hung Gar teacher, Master Lao Kim at that time. Until now the training and teaching system remains the same and continues to be practiced by a small group of practitioners in Manila. More than 30 years of teaching experience and has taught hundreds of students, Master Ramos' teaching all started way back when his teacher Master Poon Sin required him to teach others. It was quite extra ordinary, because during those time secrecy was the common practice in Chinese Martial Arts, most arts are keep with in the clan members. According to Master Poon, a good student is the product and the reflection of a good teacher, that's why teaching was required. Master Poon would always recommend him to his friend in the Filipino Chinese Community in manila and made sure that he was supplied with student continuously to ensure continuous training & improvement. Thus, until now he continues to promote and spread the art of the Hung Fut system. |
